Though the name is long, this is simply a treatment to solve gum recession!
At Jensen Lakes Dental, we use the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique, PST for short, which was invented and patented by Dr. John Chao, DDS, MAD. This procedure is both scalpel and suture-free, making it minimally invasive for optimal patient comfort.
The procedure begins with us making a small hole in the gum with the use of a needle. From there, an instrument specifically designed for this procedure will be used to gently and effectively loosen the gum tissue in the area, and glide it over the receding area of the tooth. This will help to esthetically aid your natural smile, and get rid of the elongated look your teeth may have adopted as your gums began to recede.
The best part about this procedure is there’s no need to take any extra donor tissue from the patient’s palette in order to complete the process. We simply use the existing tissue in the area to solve your problem, renewing your smile once again with one simple procedure!
Traditional grafting techniques involve taking tissue from the palette to complete the procedure, and it works just as well. However, we find that the pinhole approach improves patient experience and comfort levels, two things that are extremely important to our practice!
